The skills needed for doing well as a technical communicator bring together both right and left brained abilities. On the left brained side (the logical, analytic skills), technical communicators need to be able to understand technical information, make inferences, find inconsistencies, and trace the logic of an argument. On the other hand, a good technical communicator is first and foremost a writer – someone who can gather raw information and write about it in a clear and interesting way. A good technical communicator has a knack for presenting information in a way that others can relate to – no matter how detailed or technical the information may seem.
This exam provides a way for you to learn about the skills required for good technical communication. After you complete a question, you can view the answers and compare them with your own. The exam tests for the following abilities:
English GrammarTextual Comprehension
Information Organization
Exposition (writing explanations that readers can understand)

Ability to follow instructions (and write them for others)
